Hi, I'm Mel
I'm Melissa Reynolds, an experienced sports physiotherapist with eight years of clinical practice, including three years working in the NHS. Based in Marylebone, London W1G, I specialise in musculoskeletal injuries, sports-related conditions, rheumatological issues and post-operative rehabilitation. I have particular expertise in lower back and lower limb injuries, and I take a holistic, evidence-based approach to sports physiotherapy treatment.
My management style combines manual therapy, strength and conditioning, mobility programs, and, where appropriate, adjunct techniques such as dry needling, taping, and neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES).
I hold a Master of Sports and Exercise Physiotherapy degree (2024) and a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy with distinction (2018), both from the University of Cape Town. My most recent published research was presented at the World Physiotherapy Congress in Tokyo 2025 and the European College of Sport Sciences Congress in Italy 2025
Outside the clinic, I enjoy staying active through running, field hockey, swimming, netball, strength training and tennis - all of which give me valuable insight into treating sports-related injuries from both a clinical and personal perspective. I completed my first marathon in 2023 and am currently training for the London Marathon 2026.
How we help
Sports injury assessment & diagnosis
Every course of treatment starts with a thorough 45-minute assessment: your history, a detailed physical examination, and a clear diagnosis of the cause - not just the symptoms - with a plan you can start straight away.
- A detailed physical assessment
- A clear diagnosis and explanation
- A tailored plan and written exercise programme
Hands-on treatment
Manual therapy and soft-tissue work to settle pain and restore movement, used alongside the rehabilitation that addresses the cause. Hands-on treatment eases symptoms; the exercise work is what makes it last.
- Manual therapy and soft tissue work
- Joint mobilisation
- Taping and NMES where appropriate
Exercise rehabilitation & strength
Individualised, progressive rehabilitation and strength and conditioning - the part that rebuilds capacity and drives lasting recovery. Your programme is written up to take away and progressed as you improve.
- Individualised rehabilitation
- Strength and conditioning
- A written programme to take away
Dry needling
Dry needling to release tight, painful muscles and trigger points, used alongside hands-on treatment and rehabilitation where it will help settle symptoms and speed your recovery.
- Trigger-point and muscle release
- Combined with manual therapy
- Used where it adds to your recovery
Return-to-sport & prehab
Criteria-based return-to-sport testing, so you go back when your body is ready rather than on the calendar - plus prehabilitation before surgery or a season to reduce injury risk.
- Sport-specific return-to-play testing
- Prehabilitation before surgery
- Pre-season conditioning
- A detailed assessment of your condition
- Discussion of your goals
- A tailored treatment plan
- Your exercise programme, written up to take away

Before you book
How much does a sports physiotherapy appointment cost?
An initial appointment is £120 for 45 minutes, and a follow-up is £90 for 30 minutes. If your problem is complex or covers more than one area, an extended 45-minute follow-up is also £120. Every initial appointment includes a detailed assessment, a discussion of your goals, a tailored treatment plan and a written exercise programme to take away. Packages and home visits are available on enquiry. Payment is taken at your appointment.
Do I need a GP referral to see a physiotherapist?
No - you don't need a GP referral to book. Physiotherapy is a self-referral service, so you can book an initial appointment directly and be seen without seeing your GP first. The one exception is private health insurance: some insurers ask for a GP referral or pre-authorisation before they'll cover treatment, so it's worth checking your policy before you book.
Can I claim on my private health insurance, and how does billing work?
Fill out the form provided when you book an appointment with your membership number and authorisation code prior to your appointment. If you have not received authorisation for treatment you will be required to self pay.
How many sessions will I need?
It varies with the injury, but most people need a short course of treatment rather than open-ended care. Many straightforward problems settle within a handful of sessions, while post-operative or long-standing conditions take longer. You'll get an honest estimate at your first appointment once I've assessed you, and we'll review progress as we go rather than booking more than you need.
What should I wear to my appointment?
Wear comfortable, loose clothing you can move in - activewear or gym kit is ideal. For a lower-limb or back problem, shorts help so the area can be assessed properly; for a shoulder or neck issue, a vest top works well. You're welcome to bring a change of clothes if you're coming from work.
What happens in a first appointment?
Your first appointment lasts 45 minutes. We start by talking through your history, symptoms and what you want to get back to, then I carry out a detailed physical assessment to find the cause, not just the symptoms. From there you'll get hands-on treatment where appropriate, and we'll work through your rehabilitation exercises together so you leave knowing exactly how to do them - because it's the rehab between sessions, not just the treatment on the day, that drives your recovery. You'll go home with a clear diagnosis, a tailored plan, a written exercise programme to start straight away, and a realistic idea of how long recovery should take.
Can I still train while I'm injured?
Often, yes - staying active usually helps recovery, as long as you train around the injury rather than through pain. The aim is to keep the rest of your body strong and maintain fitness while the injured area heals, adjusting load rather than stopping altogether. What's safe depends on the injury, so I'll give you clear guidance on what to keep doing, what to adjust and what to avoid for now.
